It has been a busy start to the year and we have been consulting with many of our partner organisations see how best to deliver ROH Create and Sing teacher training across the UK in 2021/22.

For those interested, we are now inviting new and returning partners to request teacher training dates for 2022. If you are new to the programme and would like a reminder of what it includes, please watch this video.

Create and Sing training 2021/22

We had huge success in the spring delivering our training virtually, which helped us connect with teachers well beyond our typical reach. We’re excited to announce this led to ROH winning Teach Primary’s Best Remote Learning Resource 2021. To help our partners and their teachers to continue to connect with our training in the most effective and convenient way for them, we will be offering a choice of entirely virtual, blended, or physical training.

  • Physical training — a one-part training delivered as a full day of training (typically 9am-3pm), hosted by the partner in a local venue (school hall, hub rehearsal space etc.), delivered by our Create and Sing practitioners. Minimum sign up required: 15
  • Blended Training   — a two-part training offered as a virtual part one (open to teachers nationally, see dates below) and a physical part 2 (typically 1-4pm) hosted by the partner in a local venue. Minimum sign up: part 1 = NA, part 2 = 15.
  • Virtual Training — a two-part training with both parts offered virtually (open to teachers nationally). Minimum sign up: part 1 = NA, part 2 = 15.

All training is offered to partners and teachers free of charge, as are all the Create and Sing resources hosted on the ROH Learning Platform. We do, however, have a minimum sign up for physical sessions and ask partner organisations to cover any venue fees for physical sessions. For any partners wanting to arrange local physical training but concerned they may not be able to recruit the 15 teachers we require, please request dates and alert us to this. ROH will work with you to identify other routes we may be able to recruit local teachers through to make the training viable.

Choice of Resource and Dates

This year we will be offering training focused on exploring our Create and Sing Carmen and Create and Sing Hansel and Gretel resources, as well as our upcoming new resource, Create and Sing The Magic Flute (watch this video to see one of the arrangements being performed by the audience of a recent school matinee with the Royal Opera).

All trainings will be delivered by a team of our ROH music and drama practitioners and will cover general topics such as ‘nurturing young voices’ and ‘developing characters’ and ‘building scenes’ as well as exploring the songs and activities included in the opera resource.

For partners who joined us for virtual training last year, we would like to offer teachers in your area a ‘part 2’ physical session locally, giving them the chance to work in the room with our practitioners on what they covered virtually earlier this year. You can of course direct teachers new to the programme to join a virtual ‘part 1’ and then come to your local part 2 as well.

If opting for a ‘Blended’ model, please refer to the list of dates in our online form (link below) and check the date you request for your local ‘part 2’ comes at least a week after a virtual ‘part 2’.

To request Create and Sing teacher training please complete our CPD Request Form by 29th October.

Once we have your request, we will be in touch to discuss the training with you further. If you have any questions, please get in touch and we look forward to hopefully working with you and the teachers in your area this year.
