Are you a musician currently in Year 11 or Year 12? Interested in conducting?
No previous conducting experience necessary (you just need to be able to read music).
Wolverhampton City Choir is small, friendly group of around 10 singers that likes to sing classical choral pieces and folk songs in four-part harmony – although we don’t mind occasional excursions into other genres 🙂
As our new conductor you can:
✓ Practise your conducting skills in a friendly, supportive setting
✓ Add ‘Conductor of the City of Wolverhampton Choir’ to your CV
✓ Gain professional musical experience outside of the school environment, working with an adult choir in the community
✓ Be featured on our Facebook page and website
Also:
• We can pay a small amount to cover travel expenses
• We may be able to arrange a few private conducting lessons to get you started
We rehearse at St Andrew’s Church (St Andrews Close, Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton WV6 0QZ) on Tuesday evenings during term time and we are looking for someone who can commit to at least two terms, from September 2026.
How to apply: Just send us an email or text to say you’re interested and we’ll be in touch with a few questions. Feel free to apply with a friend if you’d like to share the role.
Our current conductor, Arjun Toora, is pictured above with the Mayor and Mayoress of the City of Wolverhampton at the Young Citizen of the Year Award ceremony. He will be leaving to read music at Cambridge in September. This is what he said about his experience with the City of Wolverhampton Choir:
“I joined the choir in October 2024, and it honestly changed the way I look at music as a subject. Even though a lot of the job is making sure everyone is watching and waving your hands, conducting the choir taught me invaluable leadership, communication and teamwork skills and I am so lucky to have worked with such amazing people! It is a wonderful feeling to be able to create music alongside individuals from all different walks of life, and I’d advise anyone reading this to grasp this life-changing opportunity with both hands! We have held some Christmas concerts and some concerts at the local care home, Foxland Grange, and it has been so much fun. Don’t be scared, get involved and, most importantly of all, have fun! Good luck!”
The deadline for expressions of interest is 4 May 2026
