This year our prestigious Wolverhampton Youth and Wind orchestras under the batons of Mr Morgan & Mr Brailsford will undertake a concert tour in July, based in Palencia, Spain.
That’s 2 Orchestras, 76 Students, 8 staff, 2 Coaches, 5 Concerts
The repertoire is a truly eclectic mix and will include William Tell – Rossini, Rodeo – Copland, Suite Gothique – Boellmann, Jubilee Overture – Sparke, Le Roi D’Ys – Lalo , Moorside Suite – Holst ,Not’num Town – Street , McArthur Park – Webb, Aladdin suite – Nielsen, Borodin – First Movement from Symphony No.1, Smetana – tone poem Vysehrad from Ma Vlast and a Led Zeppelin Medley.
Our soloist this year is Janey Harold, playing the Kabalevsky Cello Concerto No.1 in G min.
Venues will include the Monasterio Carrion de Los Condes located on the Pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela and is believed to be the burial place of the Apostle James. The Monastery has a super acoustic and a hotel complex has been added to the original building.
Guardo. 800 people from Guardo came to the concert given in 2015. Funds raised from the concert went towards the building of a new music school for Guardo.
We are very proud to have been invited back to play in their fabulous new auditorium in 2019.
Auditorio El Carmelo in Tordesillas Town Square – A beautiful venue in a small hill town.
Pampolina. The town band will host us in a concert in the coastal town of Hondarribia.
Medina De Rioseco.
This has one of the most ornate alters in Spain. The acoustic has a 5 second echo which will be interesting during our performance!
For those of us unable to attend the concerts in Spain 🙁 there is a pre tour concert which takes place at St John’s in the Square on Friday 19th July.
We look forward to a superb tour this year. Don’t forget to follow us on facebook for all the latest news! (wolverhampton music service)
