‘We Built This City’ Project

Central Youth Theatre have been successful in securing a grant from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, powered by Levelling Up. The grant will support the delivery of an exciting new film project for young people aged 16-24 called ‘We Built This City.’

‘We Built This City’ is an intergenerational community project that will develop young people’s employability and soft skills through weekly creative workshops including filmmaking, script editing, marketing and promotion and event management. Project workshops will be supported by industry professionals currently working in the wider arts sector.

From September to March 2024, Young people will be tasked with locating and collecting stories from Wolverhampton’s ‘unsung heroes’ who have positively shaped their local community and contributed to the city’s cultural, social or community development in some way. These stories will be creatively interpreted and made into 4 short films alongside a professional film maker and showcased at a film screening event in March 2024.

Young people will learn hands on experience of producing a film, including storyboarding, script writing and editing and is the perfect first-time experience for those wishing to carve a career path in the creative digital industries.

They are currently welcoming young people aged 16-24 to take part in the project at the Newhampton Arts Centre. Weekly workshops are FREE to participate in and will culminate in the creation of 4 short films to be screened at the Newhampton Arts Centre in March 2024.
