What is NYO Inspire?
NYO Inspire is an inclusion and access programme targeted to Grade 6 – 8+ teenage musicians – free for those that attend. Our dynamic approach to inclusion is simple; strategic and joined up across the sector to reach those musicians that need the opportunities NYO offer.
From one-day events with a 120-piece symphony orchestra or instrument ensemble, to three-day residentials, NYO Inspire events take place across the country for passionate teenagers playing at Grade 6-8+ standard. They must also play one of the following orchestral instruments: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Harp, Percussion, Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass.
Our objective is to offer every skilled and dedicated teenage musician the chance to have a breakthrough experience through NYO Inspire. Within this we have a special focus on supporting and empowering musicians underrepresented in NYO and the professional orchestra sector from state education and Black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds, respectively.
The music service can nominate 5 teenage musicians (Grade 6 – 8+, aged 13-19) to apply for NYO Inspire in 2020.
Applications are open for any teenage musician from state education and/or Black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds to sign up. Once musicians have signed up, applications are then moderated, and places are offered strategically to:
50% of applicants that have been nominated by NYO partners (including WMS)
30% to musicians we have meet at NYO Auditions
20% through open applications on our website / returning NYO Inspire musicians
If you have any musicians you feel could be nominated by WMS please let us have the details via e-mail (subject NYO inspire nomination)
