National Youth Orchestra and National Youth Orchestra Inspire Opportunities for students
Celebrate the return to live music with the world’s greatest orchestra of teenagers!
We know young people across the country have missed meeting like-minded musicians, playing incredible music together, and sharing their performances with others, which is why we would love to encourage teenage musicians to apply to be part of the NYO Community 2022.
We are recruiting musicians to be part of a dynamic community of young people who are passionate about orchestral music, and who want to open up this music to their generation. In 2022, there are places for 1000 teenage musicians to be part of the NYO orchestral community, in NYO and NYO Inspire – this is their opportunity to join in.
By joining the NYO Community, these young people will experience transformative music-making at the highest level. They will take a deep dive into incredible music, creating thrilling performances for audiences of all ages, and they will use their voices to have their say about why music matters to make a difference to other young people.
This year we are also offering extra support for those musicians who show great potential but have been disadvantaged this year by a lack of music lessons at their schools.
If students are not quite ready to audition for NYO, but are looking for another way to power up their music-making and be part of something big, they can apply for NYO Inspire 2022. NYO Inspire is for musicians who play at Grade 6, 7 or 8 standard and attend a state school, are home-schooled, or if they are Black, Asian or ethnically diverse. NYO Inspire is a game-changing programme which encourages young people to make connections with each other, learn from your peers, and break through to the next level of their music-making journey.
Applications for both NYO and NYO Inspire are completely free, and the application process is designed to give musicians a fun, collaborative and innovative musical experience, whatever the outcome.
