Invitation to attend the free Chineke! Junior Orchestra Summer development course
The Chineke! Foundation are putting out an open call for young musicians to take part in a free residential orchestral development course this summer! Sign up here to take part.
The Chineke! Foundation, driven by the motto “Championing change and celebrating diversity in classical music,” is committed to providing exceptional career opportunities for Black and ethnically diverse musicians. They extend a special invitation to young musicians aged 12-22, in particular from Black and/or global majority backgrounds, to take part in this transformative course.
During this incredible week, young musicians will experience:
🎵 Rehearsing and performing in a full-scale symphony orchestra at a prestigious professional venue
🎵 Instrument-specific tuition and personalised mentoring from Chineke! musicians
🎵 A multitude of fun extras over the course of the week, including workshops on physical and mental well-being tailored specifically to music-making, an exciting film night, and much more!

📍 Where: Benenden School, Cranbrook TN17 4AA. (Residential Course – accommodation will be provided for you)
🎶 Performance: Saturday, August 26 at Fairfield Halls, Croydon CR9 1DG
Musical requirements
As this is a development course, it’s unfortunately not suitable for beginners – they are looking for musicians aged 12 – 22 of the following standard:
🎻 Junior string and percussion players: ABRSM Grade 6 or above (or equivalent)
🎺 Wind, brass, and senior string players: ABRSM Grade 8 or above (or equivalent)
To maximise the benefits of this opportunity, participants are expected to rehearse the repertoire in advance. Don’t worry – they will provide all the necessary music!

The best part? This incredible course is absolutely free of charge to take part in! They will cover the cost of catering and accommodation at Benenden School, and even have a bursary available to assist with travel expenses if needed. They are arranging a coach from London to Benenden and back, and can work out individual travel arrangements if needed.
