Young Conductor Opportunity

Are you a musician in Year 12 or Year 13? Interested in conducting?
Practise your conducting skills in a friendly, supportive setting and add ‘Conductor of the City of Wolverhampton Choir’ to your CV!
City of Wolverhampton Choir are a small, friendly choir (currently around 10 singers) that likes to sing classical choral pieces and folk songs in four-part harmony, although they don’t mind occasional excursions into other genres. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain professional musical experience outside of the school environment, working with an adult choir in the community. No previous conducting experience necessary, but you do need to be able to read music.

Hannah Spedding, their previous young conductor, said “I joined the choir in October 2022 and it has been one of the best musical opportunities I have had so far and I am so grateful to all the choir for the amazing experience they have given me.I began w ith no prior conducting experience, and having been taught the basics by my director of music at St Peters Church. Thanks to this, I have been able to conduct a recital and run a “Come And Sing Carols” night last Christmas, which was extremely successful!” Hannah added, “the choir has given me so much confidence in my own abilities and has allowed me to go further on my musical journey to university as a confident conductor.”

The choir rehearse at St Andrew’s Church in Whitmore Reans on Tuesday evenings during term time and they are looking for someone who can commit to at least one term. Feel free to apply with a friend if you’d like to share the role!
Get in touch if you are interested or would like to know more – ideally by 30th September 2024 for an immediate start. But if you might be interested in applying for future terms/years, you can contact them at any time.
