Sustainability
New Recycling Bins at the Music Service
We have recently introduced three new types of recycling bins at the Music School, to promote sustainability and reduce waste. Young people and staff are encouraged to separate out food waste, dry mixed recycling and general waste so that items can be disposed of responsibly.
This initiative reflects the Music Service and Wolverhampton City Council’s commitment to environmental awareness and encourages everyone to play a part in creating a greener site. By sorting waste correctly, we can significantly reduce landfill contributions and support recycling efforts within the community.
Instrument Recycle Scheme
Introducing ReTune, a musical instrument recycling programme run by Normans Education.
This initiative involves recycling our old, unused musical instruments. Normans arrange a free-of-charge collection of these instruments, assess their condition and either repair, donate, auction or responsibly dispose of them.
Any surplus generated from the resale of instruments or parts is donated to Earthly.org.
Norman’s Earthly Project
Why nature-based solutions?
Nature-based solutions can contribute a third of the mitigation needed by 2030 to stabilise warming to below 2°C, but a lack of investment means their potential is not yet being fully tapped.
Concert Dress Swap Shop
People are encouraged to bring in concert shirts, blouses, trousers and skirts which no longer fit and hang them on a rail in the Music School foyer for other members to take.
WMS Climate Strategy
It identifies practical decarbonisation actions, aligns with council climate goals, and promotes climate-conscious practices among schools, families and partners, while setting out ways to track and demonstrate meaningful progress.
